UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - After earning its highest ranking in the programs' history at No. 10 last week, the University of Richmond women's lacrosse team jumped up even further in the polls to No. 9 after a dominating victory over Old Dominion last Wednesday. Richmond (5-2), the only school in the Atlantic 10 ranked in the nation or even receiving votes at this point in the season, will continue its season this Wed. as it plays host to American University at 3:00 p.m. at First Market Stadium.
Coming off of four straight wins over William and Mary (13-9), Monmouth University (18-5), Mount St. Mary's (15-3), and Old Dominion (22-10), the Spiders will look to defend their national ranking and continue their winning ways as they head into a three-game home stretch starting with American and continuing with Towson and UC Davis.
Freshman Mandy Friend currently leads all Spiders in scoring with a total of 23 goals in the first seven games, averaging an amazing 3.29 goals per game as a freshman, including a hat trick in all but one game this season. Senior Caroline McGuire follows Friend with 18 goals so far this season, recording multiple goals in all but one game, including four hat tricks.

The Spiders and the Eagles will be meeting for the 15th time in history with Richmond leading the series 12-2 and posting wins in the last four meetings between the two teams. The Spiders have never been defeated by the Eagles on their home territory.
