No. 12 Women's Lacrosse Breaks Program's Record For Most Wins In A Season With 10-4 Triumph Over La Salle

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Juniors Morghan Vahue and Ashley Friend and freshman Mandy Friend each notched hat tricks to help the 12th-ranked Richmond women's lacrosse team break the program's record for most wins in a season with a 10-4 triumph over La Salle at McCarthy Stadium Sunday in Philadelphia. The Spiders 13th win of the season topped the previous best set by the 2002 squad
Junior Megan Riedy also added one goal as the Spiders, now 13-3 overall and leading the Atlantic 10 with a 5-1 conference mark, notched their sixth-straight win over the Explorers (5-11, 1-5 in A-10).
Although the Explorers put in the first goal of the game at the 25:23 mark, Richmond's Mandy Friend quickly responded with her first of three for the afternoon just 16 seconds later to knot the game at 1-1. Sister Ashley Friend followed with her first of three at 16:11 off an assist from Allison Nuzzi to give the Spiders a one-goal advantage; however, the Explorers were able to put one more goal with three minutes remaining before intermission to tie the score at two.
Ashley Friend opened the second half with her second goal of the afternoon before La Salle would net another goal just one minute later to tie the game (3-3) for the last time.
From there, the Spiders then rattled off three straight goals between the 22:29 mark and the 20:45 mark giving them a 6-3 lead. Vahue put the first one in off an assist from McGuire and then Ashley Friend assisted sister Mandy on a goal before putting in her third one off an assist form McGuire.
La Salle's final goal of the game went in at 9:54 off a free position shot before Richmond would score four goals in the final three minutes to win the game 10-4. Riedy led the final run with the first goal, while Vahue followed with a pair of goals, and Mandy Friend concluded the game with her third goal of the afternoon as she notched her tenth hat trick of the season.
Jackie Swansburg finished the game with nine saves in goal for the Spiders.
The Spiders will conclude their regular season with the Saint Joseph's Hawks on April 28 at First Market Stadium. Four Spider seniors, Allison Nuzzi, Jackie Swansburg will be honored in a senior ceremony prior to the start of the game.
