BALTIMORE, Md. - Ending its second straight game in a double overtime knot, the Richmond women's soccer team played Loyola College to a 1-1 tie in double overtime on Diane Geppi-Aikens Field on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Julia Bizer scored the Spiders' only goal of the contest.
The first half was scoreless with the Loyola defense not allowing a single Richmond shot. The Greyhounds put nine shots on the board in the first half but were unable to convert one into a goal.
It was the Spiders who got on the board first, scoring on their second shot of the game at 59:21 when Bizer drew out Loyola keeper Amanda Piccirilli for the 1-0 lead and her second goal on the season.
Seven minutes later, the Greyhounds got on the board when Colleen Kinealy controlled the ball after an initial wide shot, tapping it into the box to leading scorer Carolyn Kennington. Kennington got her shot past Richmond goalie Kate Hudson for the 1-1 tie and her third goal of the year.
Loyola outshot Richmond 5-0 in overtime, but neither team was able to come up with the game winner.
Richmond's Hudson registered seven saves in 110 minutes of action on Sunday, while Piccirilli and Brittany Henderson split time in goal for the Greyhounds with one save total.
The Greyhounds, who had just upset Maryland 1-0 on Tuesday night, move to a 1-3-1 mark with the tie, while the Spiders are now 0-6-2 on the season.
The Spiders will return to the road on Friday in Washington, D.C. where they will play the American Eagles at 4:00 p.m.
