UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -The No. 19 ranked Richmond field hockey team erased a 2-0 deficit and junior Erin Arthur's goal on a penalty corner propelled the Spiders to a 4-3 win over Princeton on Saturday at Crenshaw Field.
The Spiders (2-0) fell behind 1-0 just 2:44 into the match and trailed 2-0 after Princeton's second goal at the 22:52 mark in the first half. Just 31 seconds later, senior Heather Wrublesky took a pass from junior Shannon Taylor and scored her first goal of the season to cut the gap to 2-1.
Just over four minutes later the Spiders tied the game when freshman Megan Thompson scored her first-career goal on great pass from fellow freshman Lindsey Conrad. The score remained tied through halftime, but with 14 minutes remaining Taylor scored her third goal of the season, taking a shot that hit off the goalkeeper but bounced into the cage.
Princeton tied the game just three minutes later, when Tina Bortz scored her second goal of the season, but with under six minutes to play Richmond was awarded a corner and junior Tara Kelly pushed the ball right to Arthur on left wing, and Arthur controlled the ball and blasted a shot from just inside the circle for her six-career goal.
The Spiders controlled play the rest of the way as they improved to 2-0 on the season. Richmond will now face national powers Michigan (Sept. 8) and Old Dominion (Sept. 9) next weekend in Norfolk, Va.
