UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Senior Adam Goloboski, already named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week, earned a second weekly accolade Tuesday afternoon. I-AA.org honored Goloboski as one of four National Weekly All-Stars after the Spiders shutout Duke, 13-0, Sept. 2 in Durham, N.C.
Goloboski, a Preseason I-AA.org All-American and Preseason All-Atlantic 10 selection, garnered eight total tackles in the Spiders' shutout road win at Division I Duke. The senior linebacker made one stop for a loss of two yards, forced a fumble and blocked a Blue Devil field goal attempt late in the second quarter. Richmond's defense earned its first shutout since late in the 2004 season, and led the squad to its first win over a Division I opponent since the 2000 season.
The win over Duke also marked the first win over an ACC opponent since 1978, while the shutout win over a Division I team was the first for an Atlantic 10 squad since the 2002 season.
The Spiders are in the midst of a bye week, before they host VMI, Saturday, Sept. 16 at UR Stadium. Kickoff for the game held during the University of Richmond's Family Weekend is slated for 3 p.m. Tickets to see the 10th-ranked Spiders and their Commonwealth rival VMI, as well as all Richmond home games, are available online at RichmondSpiders.com, calling 1-877-SPIDER-1 or visiting the Robins Center ticket office.
