UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, VA. - The Richmond women's lacrosse schedule has been finalized, featuring ten home games and three opponents which advanced to the 2006 NCAA Tournament. The Spiders, who were picked to win their third-straight A-10 Championship by the league's head coaches, just returned to Richmond from a 13-day excursion to Australia to prepare for the upcoming season that kicks off on Feb. 12 with an exhibition against the England National Team.
"We are thrilled to host England's National team in an exhibition to open our season," stated Richmond head coach Sue Murphy. "That experience, combined with the four-game schedule we played in early January in Adelaide, Australia, will help prepare us for our competitive non-conference schedule that includes four ACC programs."
Following the contest with England, the Spiders will officially open their 10-game non-conference slate at Longwood, before returning home to host the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Spiders will then hit the road for match-ups with ACC-rivals Duke and Virginia and CAA-rival William & Mary.
The Spiders return to Richmond to host Maryland, as they look to avenge their three-goal shortfall from last season, which was one of only four losses. The Spiders will also enjoy home contests with Mount St. Mary's and Columbia before closing out their non-conference slate with a trip to Towson and a home contest with Old Dominion.
"Our strength and balance of schedule should help groom us for Atlantic 10 play in April," said Murphy.
The Spiders open A-10 competition by playing host to George Washington, before three-straight road games at Saint Joseph's, Temple and Massachusetts. Richmond concludes the regular season with a three-game home stand, playing host to La Salle, St. Bonaventure and Duquesne before taking off to Philadelphia, Pa. for the Atlantic 10 Championships in hopes of capturing its third-straight title.
