Greetings from Fe and Single...coming from down under where the toilets flush backwards. Speaking of which, there are two ways to flush the toilets here...half flush and a full flush. Well, we're a couple days into our trip, but we haven't had that many opportunities to access the internet. The Richmond crew that flew out of Richmond International had an interesting trip. For starters, the Townies missed the first flight and were forced to take a later plane. We encountered a few minor problems in the LAX airport. Riedy misplaced her passport somewhere on the East or West coast (location unknown) so she and Amy had no choice but to stay an extra night in LAX in hopes that a new passport would arrive.
After a day of traveling, we arrived in Sydney, where we stayed in China Town. After our arrival, we went for a team run, where we resembled a traveling circus. That night, we went to the Blackbird Café after listening to traditional aborigine music.
The following day, we had our very first team practice in the middle of Sydney. It might have been one of our hardest practices, but luckily we were surrounded by beautiful scenery. Our practice was followed by a team surfing lesson led by the very attractive and talented Rob. Amy was afraid of being eaten by a shark, while Coach was especially nervous about drowning in the riptides. Overall, the lesson was a success and no one got hurt.
We are currently in Cairns (pronounced tin Cans). This town is considered a beach town, yet there is no beach. However, there is a man-made lagoon, where we have spent most of our time. We had the opportunity to eat Australian fare, including Crocodile, water buffalo, kangaroo and emu (Mr. Hanky). There is a large assortment of soda here, but very little water. We have noticed that the prices are much higher here and we feel broke. We also feel as though everyone stares at us as if we're not welcome. Today, most of the team traveled to the rainforest, where they witnessed live animals. Some held koalas, while others fed kangaroos. Tonight, we had an eventful evening in the pool, where we had relay races and time to bond.
Tomorrow, we are taking a boat out to the barrier reef, where we will be snorkeling as a team. We will update you with our newest adventures as soon as we have a chance. Hope all is well in the States and Happy New Year to all. We miss you!
