FARMVILLE, Va. - The Richmond women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss in non-conference action to Longwood Sunday night in Farmville, Va. Although outshooting the Lancers, the Spiders could not overcome a 59th-minute goal.
The Spiders, who have four games remaining in the regular season, find themselves positioned for a potential berth in the six-team Atlantic 10 Championship. Richmond stands 3-3-1 in league play, good for seventh-place with 10 points (tied with Xavier).
Longwood struck for the lone goal at the 58:32 mark when Kristina Reed headed a free kick past Richmond keeper Kate Hudson. It was Sarah Fening's free kick that set up Reed's first tally of the year.
Hudson made two saves, but came up on the short end of the decision. Longwood keeper Anne Whitmore also collected two stops. Jessie Wolfe took three of Richmond's 12 shots.
Richmond (4-10-2, 3-3-1) downed George Washington Saturday night to get back to .500 in the league play. The Spiders trail sixth-place Rhode Island by three points.
