UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond Women's Lacrosse team participated in the 2007 American Cancer Society "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk" on Saturday, October 21st. Twenty-six team members along with three coaches trekked a 5k walk through Byrd Park located in downtown Richmond. The event was a part of the nation-wide Breast Cancer Awareness month.
"Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk" has been making its way through cities all over the nation, helping to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Richmond lacrosse team members, their families and coaches raised $1800 in support of the fight against breast cancer. Hundreds of participants showed up on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in downtown Richmond to make their contributions.
The girls designed and wore matching pink tee shirts, with the national breast cancer ribbon symbol and "UR Lax" across the front of the shirt. Each tee-shirt was personalized with a name of a loved one who was either currently battling, had passed on or was a survivor of the disease.
The Richmond event helped raise over $215,000 that will be put towards breast cancer research, education and advocacy. Walking in this event was another way Richmond student-athletes contribute to their community and to a national cause.
