Women's Soccer Scores First, But Falls to UMass in Double-Overtime

AMHERST, Mass. - Despite jumping to an early lead, Richmond could not hang on for the win today in Amherst, Mass. The Spiders fell to the UMass Minutewomen, 2-1, in double over-time. Richmond out shot their A-10 opponents, 28-11, but could only find the back of the net once. Junior goalkeeper, Kate Hudson, recorded 4 saves for the Spiders.
Junior Sarah Hilt gave Richmond the early lead at 15:29, with her second goal of the season. Senior Carrie Holland found Anne Hazel moving towards the net where she was able to get the ball around UMass goalkeeper, Lauren Luckey, to find Hilt for the goal.
The Spiders held the lead through the first half, until UMass's Britt Canfield tied up the score in the 66th minute of play. Both teams were held scoreless the rest of regulation play, sending the game into overtime. In the 107th minute of play, Canfield found the net once again to give UMass the win.
Richmond stays on the road this weekend, to finish off regular season play at Rhode Island on Sunday at 12 p.m. ET.
