The Spiders travel west for Thanksgiving and look for their second straight win against UNLV, Friday November 23 at 7:30 p.m. ET. Richmond will face the host of the UNLV Lady Rebel Shootout for their first game and will see either Montana or Oregon State on Saturday, November 24 at 4 p.m. ET.
After earning their second win of the season against William and Mary, 68-64, the Spiders are 2-3 going into to the tournament. Richmond beat Kennesaw St., 61-60 earlier in the season to get their first win. At William and Mary Johanna McKnight led the Spiders with 19 points. In the same game, Katie Holzer earned her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. McKnight now leads the team in points per game averaging 12.4 on the season.
Richmond is 0-1 against the Lady Rebels. In 2003, the Spiders participated in the same tournament where they fell to UNLV, 77-67. Christina Campion is the only player on the current roster who participated in the tournament four years ago. Then-freshman, Campion put up four points against the Lady Rebels.
UNLV is 1-2 going into Friday's contest. The Lady Rebels earned got their first win against Long Beach State, 73-57, then lost two straight to Loyola Marymount and Texas Tech. UNLV's Sequoia Holmes leads her team averaging 22.3 in the first three games of her senior season.
Freshman Brittani Shells has started the 2007-08 with a bang. The native of Camden, Delaware has led the Spiders in two of their three first games. Against Georgia, Shells put up 13 points, then against Fairfield recorded a career high 27 points. Shells also averages 31 minutes per game, sharing the most out of the Spiders with sophomore Kara Powell. From the three-point line, Shells is four for ten (.400), and is 18-41 (.439) from the floor.
Redshirt senior Christina Campion ended her junior season with 997 points, just three points short of reaching the 1,000 point mark. In Richmond's first game at Georgia, Camps earned her 1,000th point and added one with a four point performance against the ninth ranked Lady Bulldogs. That same weekend, Camps put up 12 points in Richmond's win against Kennesaw St. Against William and Mary, Camps scored a season-high 14 points bringing her career total to 1,029.
