Richmond Head Coach Chris Mooney
On The Game
"It was a difficult game. We shot so poorly. I felt we were anxious. I think my guys think we are pretty good and they were so anxious that we rushed some things and missed a lot of shots that I think we will normally make. But, we are certainly happy to get a win."
More On The Game
"We certainly didn't shoot the ball well. I thought our defense was good. I told the guys that all this talk about being up-tempo and scoring points in transition isn't going to look like we did anything like that, since we only scored 44. But it was a win and I thought we hung in there, and were gritty and tough when we needed to be. We're looking forward to playing Memphis tomorrow night."
On Pulling Out The Win
"The guys hung in there, most importantly I think we defended well. They had 29 turnovers and I think we forced a lot of those. We stole a lot of balls and forced them into shot clock violations when they were trying to be patient. We could have grabbed a couple of more loose balls, but we did hang in there. David (Gonzalvez) made two very big foul shots with less than four seconds left."
On The Game's Pace
"This was more of a slow-down game, and we would definitely like to get the pace up a little bit. We had 14 of our points in transition, and if we did not have those, we would have been done. We want it to be fast. I'm sure not quite as fast as Memphis wants it to be, but faster than tonight."
On Memphis
"Memphis has unbelievable athleticism and a great system that they are running. I really like the way that they play and spread the floor. I think everything they do is at such a high level. Whether they put their first guy in or their 10th guy in, he is a great basketball player. They are very well coached."
Richmond's David Gonzalvez
On The Game
"We definitely got off to a slow start, I think everybody was so anxious because it was the first game. We need to calm down and get into our stuff. Hopefully the first game is our worst game of the season. We need to put this behind us and look toward the future. Everybody is excited about the Memphis game."
On Having Trouble Scoring
"I think this was really humbling for us, everybody had these big expectations and we go out here and we barely won. It was really humbling. Tomorrow we have to come out more aggressive, but calm on offense."
Richmond's Oumar Sylla
On The Game
"We pulled it out, our shots weren't falling, but we dug in at the end. We played great defense at the end and Gonzo came up big for us. Jarhon (Giddings) played great for us too."
On Playing No. 3 Memphis Tuesday
"Tomorrow we've got Memphis, it's going to be the story of David and Goliath. We have to put this game behind us, it was a very low scoring game. Tomorrow is a new day."
Maine Head Coach Ted Woodward
On the Game
"Obviously we did a lot of the things we wanted to do coming into the game. I believe we have a chance to be a very good defensive basketball team. I think we also have a chance to be a good rebounding basketball team, and we did those two things. So, certainly from that standpoint, I'm extremely pleased."
On Committing 29 Turnovers
Obviously we were very sloppy with the basketball. I don't believe that will end up being ultimately characteristic of how we play, but it was tonight."
