Fast Breaks:
The Spiders have taken the last two weeks off from competition to focus on academics. The last time out on the court, Richmond fell to city-rival VCU 60-51. Redshirt junior Johanna McKnight led the Spiders with 17 points against the Rams and sophomore Katie Holzer recorded her third double-double of the season scoring 14 points and pulling down 13 boards. McKnight's performance in their last outing earned her a spot on last week's A-10 honor roll.
Richmond is now 5-5 heading into their last home game of 2007. The Spiders will not return to the Robins Center until January 2, 2008 when they host Notre Dame for a 7 p.m. ET start. Albany is 1-9 as they head south to Richmond. McKnight continues to lead the Spiders averaging 14.3 points per game. Kristin Higy leads Albany averaging 11.6 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game. Higy has been the leading scorer in five of the Great Danes' ten games.
. Richmond leads the all-time series with the Great Danes, 2-0. The Spiders met Albany in the year 2000, and again in 2001 but have not met since. Richmond defeated Albany 87-77 back in January 2001.
Redshirt senior Christina Campion ended her junior season with 997 points, just three points short of reaching the 1,000 point mark. In Richmond's first game at Georgia, Camps earned her 1,000th point and added one with a four point performance against the ninth ranked Lady Bulldogs. That same weekend, Camps put up 12 points in Richmond's win against Kennesaw St., bringing her career points total to 1,068.
McKnight's scoring does not outshine her defense however. The native of Kenner, Louisiana also leads the Spiders with 22 steals in the 2007-08 season. McKnight also averages the most rebounds per game out of the Spiders' guards, pulling down 5.3 per game.
Up Next: After the holidays, Richmond will head to College Park, Maryland for the Terrapin Classic. First up, the Spiders will face off against UMBC December 28 at 1 p.m. ET and the following day, December 29, will go against host, fourth ranked Maryland at 2 p.m. ET.
