MIDLOTHIAN, Va. - Five members of the Richmond football team went to J.B. Watkins Elementary School in Midlothian to help celebrate Dr. Seus Day. The Richmond student-athletes spent an hour reading to two classes each and answering questions regarding college and being a student-athlete.
The students listened closely and even assisted in the reading of one of the books. The students asked questions about coursework and majors as well as how to get to be a student-athlete in college. Richmond football players Josh Vaughan, Tim Hightower, Drew Lachenmayer, Will Healy and Scot Riddell stressed the importance of getting good grades early and always working hard.
Dr. Seuss Day is a National Read Across America Event and J.B. Watkins Elementary's school-wide celebration was March 2nd. Students at the school honored Dr. Seuss by wearing neckties and wearing silly hats on this day. March 2, 2007 marked the 10th anniversary for the National Read Across America Day and the 100th anniversary of Dr. Seuss Birthday. This event is sponsored by the National Education Association (NEA).
