Baseball Opens Three-Game Series At No. 11 Wichita State

WICHITA, Kan. - The Richmond baseball team will look to continue a three-game winning streak when it plays at No. 11 ranked Wichita State in the first game of a three-game set Friday at 3 p.m.
This is the Spiders' last road trip before the Atlantic 10 opener at Rhode Island on March 23. Richmond will return home to host Virginia Tech on Wednesday, kicking off a nine-game homestand.
Richmond opened the year 0-4, but swept Delaware last weekend at Pitt Field by scores of 9-3, 7-5 and 2-0.
Wichita State will play its home opener on Friday against the Spiders. The Shockers are 8-3 on the year, coming off a loss to Oklahoma on Wednesday. Wichita State is 28-1 in home openers under 29-year head coach Gene Stephenson.
Junior Joe Mahoney leads the Spiders in batting average (.360), on-base percentage (.484), RBIs (6) and walks (5) through the first seven games.
Junior Alex Hale will get the start in the series opener, taking on Wichita State's Aaron Shafer.
The second game of the series Saturday is set for 2 p.m. and final game is set for 1 p.m.
