Spider Field Hockey Signs Seven Newcomers

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond first-year field hockey head coach Gina Lucido announced the signing of six high school seniors and one transfer.Sara Schrott will join the Spiders as a junior transfer from Robert Morris, while incoming freshman Hannah Hess (Ephrata, Pa.), Sarah Masek (Severna Park, Md.), Sara Reese (Lancaster, Pa.), Natalie Simons (Lancaster, Pa.), Tori Whitcher (North Falmouth, Mass.) and Michelle Weaver (Lititz, Pa.) will also begin playing for Richmond in the fall.
"The group of young women comprising the 2007 incoming class can be summed up in a word; character," Lucido said. "Each of these young women possesses a commitment and work ethic that is the foundation of Richmond's past success and future glory. I am thrilled to incorporate these excellent student-athletes into the new family we are building upon the Richmond tradition of success."
Hannah Hess |
Hess is a 5-foot-4 midfielder from Ephrata, Pa. who was a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter at Ephrata High School, where she earned first-team all-state honors as both a junior and senior. Hess was a three-time Lancaster-Lebanon League All-Star selection, earning first-team honors as a junior and senior and second-team as a sophomore. The National Honor Society student was team MVP and captain as a senior. She was a four-year member of the Lanco Premier club team, which participated in the National Field Hockey Festival all four years.
Masek is a 5-foot-7 back from Severna Park, Md. where she was a three-year starter at Severn School. Masek was honorable mention all-state and an Independent Athletic Association of Maryland All-Star as a senior. She earned first-team All-Anne Arundel County honors from The Capital Gazette newspapers and the Baltimore Sun. The Honor Roll and National Honor Society student was a member of the Spark Club team for two years, including participation in the USA National Field Hockey Festival.
Sara Reese |
Reese is a 5-foot-3 forward from Lancaster, Pa. who played at Manheim Township High School with Weaver. Reese was a two-time Lancaster-Lebanon League All-Star and her teams' leading scorer as a junior and senior. She scored 19 career goals and had nine assists. Reese was a four-year member of the Lanco Premier club team, which participated in the National Field Hockey Festival all four years.
Sarah Schrott |
Schrott is a 5-foot-7 forward from Lancaster, Pa. who is transferring from Robert Morris University. Schrott led Robert Morris with six goals, four assists and 16 points last fall as a sophomore. Schrott was a four-year starter at Lancaster Christian School, leading the team to two undefeated seasons and two league championships. She was a two-time all-conference selection and team MVP her senior year when she led the team with 13 goals and nine assists.
Natalie Simons |
Simons is a 5-foot-8 forward from Lancaster, Pa. who attended Warwick High School where she was a two-year letterwinner and one year starter, earning first-team Academic All-State honors as a senior. The Honor Roll and National Honor Society member was a 2006 Lancaster-Lebanon All-Star honorable mention as a senior. Simons helped her team to the state semifinals and Lancaster-Lebanon League titles both years as a letterwinner.
Michelle Weaver |
Weaver 5-foot-1 back and midfielder from Lititz, Pa. The four-year varsity letterwinner and three-year starter at Manheim Township High School was named first-team all-state as a senior playing with Reese. The honor roll student was named a first-team Lancaster-Lebanon League All-Star and a Lower Dauphin Tournament All-Star as both a junior and senior. She was a four-year member of the Lanco Premier club team, which participated in the National Field Hockey Festival all four years.
Tori Whitcher |
Whitcher a 5-foot-5 midfielder from North Falmouth, Mass. The four-year varsity letterwinner helped Falmouth High School to undefeated records in two of her three years as a starter. Whitcher was selected to Massachusetts' Best Of 60 Tournament, was a three-time Atlantic Coast League All-Star, a Boston Globe All-Scholastic All-Star and Boston Herald All-Scholastic All-Star. The honor roll student was a 2006 National Futures Championship selection.
