Larripa, Peroni Capture Atlantic 10 Weekly Awards

WASHINGTON, DC – Richmond field hockey's Clara Larripa and Abril Peroni have collected Atlantic 10 Conference weekly honors for a second straight week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Larripa tallied A10 Offensive Player of the Week accolades while Peroni picked up A10 Rookie of the Week honors. The pair helped the Spiders to a 2-0 weekend, improving to 3-1 overall, after shutting out American (Sept. 4) 2-0 and Longwood (Sept. 6) 6-0.
Larripa, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, tallied the game winners in both contests for a five-point weekend on four goals and one assist. Against American, Larripa broke up the scoreless game in the 43rd minute of action, scoring on a penalty corner passing play from Elen Nicholls. Larripa, taking 15 shots with 12 on frame, got the scoring going against Longwood with a goal in the ninth minute of action on a penalty corner play with an assist by Nicholls. In the third quarter, Larripa cleaned up her own shot off a corner play for her second goal and wrapped up the three-goal day with the Spiders final goal in the fourth quarter with an unassisted one-timer for her sixth Spider career hattrick. She also collected an assist on Malena Magnano's goal in the 44th minute.
Peroni tallied the Spiders fourth goal against Longwood in the 49th minute when she stuffed in a pass from Valen Luna Paratore. Peroni, a native of Córdoba, Argentina, is second on the team with eight points on four goals in four games this season.
The Spiders return to Crenshaw Field this week to host Georgetown, Friday Sept. 11 at 4 pm. Then Richmond will host No. 5 North Carolina at noon on Sunday, Sept. 13. Both games are free to attend and will be streamed on ESPN+ and internationally via Atlantic10.com.
