Women's Lacrosse Hosts La Salle Sunday

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Looking for its fifth win in the last six games, the Richmond women's lacrosse team will host La Salle in an A-10 Sunday afternoon match-up at First Market Stadium. Opening draw with the Explorers is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Sunday marks the first contest of a three-game home stand that will conclude the Spiders' regular season.
Scouting The Spiders: The Spiders, 9-5 overall and second in the A-10 with a 3-1 mark, have won four of their last five games and will go for their sixth-straight win over the Explorers on Sunday. Sophomore All-American Mandy Friend (42 goals and 11 assists) and sophomore transfer Allison Furstenburg (37 goals and nine assists) lead the Spiders' attack combining for over 75 goals and 16 hat tricks this season.
Last Time Out: The Spiders are coming off a 10-4 snowy triumph over UMass on Sunday at McGuirk Stadium, its fifth-straight win over the Minutewomen. Furstenburg finished the contest with four goals, her eighth hat trick of the season, to lead the Spiders, while Mandy Friend and Morghan Vahue each notched two goals on the afternoon.
Friend also added three assists, while Vahue notched one helper in the win. Ashley Friend put in one goal and a team season-high six draw controls and Jenna Hubbard found the back of the net once as the Spiders handed UMass its fourth-straight loss.
Leading The A-10 And The Nation: Mandy Friend dominates the A-10, placing in six statistical categories, including leading the league in game-winning goals (three), ranking second in goals (3.00/game), fourth for draw controls (2.29/game) and points (3.79/game), sixth for shots (5.86/game) and seventh for assists (0.79). Sister Ashley Friend also ranks seventh for assists, putting in 0.79/game, while Furstenburg ranks seventh for goals (2.64/game), eighth for points (2.64/game) and tenth for shots (5.21/game), and Jackie Swansburg leads the conference between the pipes in save percentage (.540) and GAA (8.09) and ranks second for saves per game (9.57).
Mandy Friend also ranks 15th in the nation for goals per game, while Swansburg ranks 7th for save percentage and eighth for GAA.
Scouting The Explorers: La Salle (4-7, 0-3 in A-10) has dropped its last five contests and will be looking for its first A-10 victory of the season on Friday afternoon with Saint Joseph's before its meeting with Richmond on Sunday. Led by Emily Bonczek notching 32 goals thus far this season, the Explorers are coming off a 10-8 shortfall to Duquesne last Sunday despite three goals each from seniors Catie Borneman and Tiffany Grossi.
Last Meeting: The Spiders have won all five meetings between the teams, including last year's 10-4 dominating victory at La Salle where Vahue and Ashley and Mandy Friend each notched hat tricks.
