UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Looking to capture the first place finish in the A-10, the Richmond women's lacrosse team will host St. Bonaventure on Friday at 3:00 p.m. and Duquesne on senior day Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at First Market Stadium in the final weekend of regular season play.
Scouting The Spiders: The Spiders, 10-5 overall and tied for second in the A-10 (with George Washington) with a 4-1 mark, have won five of their last six games and will battle for a first place finish in the league with two wins this weekend. Sophomore All-American Mandy Friend, who currently ranks second in the A-10 and 15th in the nation with 45 goals, and sophomore transfer Allison Furstenburg (39 goals) lead the Spiders' attack that ranks second in the league (in goals) averaging 10.80 goals/game.
Last Time Out: The Spiders are coming off two-straight wins, including a dominating 17-5 victory over La Salle on Sunday afternoon at First Market Stadium where they used an 11-0 first half run and hat tricks from Mandy and Ashley Friend to overtake the Explorers for the sixth-straight time.
Nine total Spiders scored in the overpowering victory with six scorers notching multiple goals. Juniors Jenna Hubbard and Erin Kennedy, Furstenburg and senior Morghan Vahue each added two goals, while junior Zara Nematollahi and sophomores Lexie Marrocco and Sarah Townsend tallied one apiece.
Scouting The Bonnies: St. Bonaventure (8-4) has won its last seven contests, and is sitting at the top of the A-10 in first place as the only remaining undefeated team in league play (5-0). Sophomore Katelyn Faas leads the Bonnies, as well as the A-10, in goals, averaging 3.75 goals/game. The Bonnies currently own a 3-2 advantage in the Richmond-SBU all-time series after taking a 12-10 win last season that ended the Spiders' 11-game win streak.
Scouting The Dukes: Duquesne (7-8, 2-3 A-10), led by Kathleen McNish with 28 goals on the season, has dropped two-straight games heading into the weekend's play and is currently sitting at fifth place and fighting for a berth to this year's A-10 Championship. The Spiders own a 4-2 advantage in the Richmond-Duquesne all-time series and have won the last two meetings over the Dukes, including last year's 11-10 victory in Pittsburgh, Pa. where Mandy and Ashley Friend each put in four goals apiece.
Up Next: Following this weekend's contest, the Spiders will head to Philadelphia, Pa. in hopes of capturing their third-straight A-10 Championship May 4-6. Live coverage of the Spiders' contests will be available at RichmondSpiders.com.
