Ashley Friend Named A-10 Lacrosse Player Of The Week

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond lacrosse senior midfielder Ashley Friend was named the A-10 Player of the Week after notching two-straight hat tricks, including a six-goal performance, in the Spiders' 2-0 week to close the regular season as the A-10 regular season co-champions.
Friend dominated over the weekend's games, posting nine goals, four assists and nine draw controls, while also converting all three free position attempts.
Friend recorded a hat trick, along with two helpers in the Spiders' win over first-placed St. Bonaventure on Friday. She also stood out with a game-high six draw controls and added two ground balls and one cause turnover.
She then went on to record her sixth hat trick of the season, delivering a six-goal performance (a career-high performance), including the game-winner, on her senior day leading the Spiders to a 12-9 win over Duquesne on Sunday. Friend came through with the first four Spider goals in the second half to eventually lift Richmond above the Dukes, with the game-winner. She also added two assists, one ground ball, three draw controls and one caused turnover.
The preseason All-American has scored in all but two games, putting in multiple-goal performances in nine contests with six hat tricks and currently leads team in assists (16), and ranks third for goals (33) and points (49). She also ranks sixth in the A-10 for assists and eighth for shots.
Friend and the Spiders return to action on Friday at 1:00 p.m. as they face Temple in first round action of the A-10 Championships in Philadelphia, Pa.
