- There is no truth to the rumor, Sue Murphy laughs, that University of Richmond officials are thinking about selling Canandaigua Academy souvenirs alongside the regular Spider paraphernalia.

But if they did, especially during women's lacrosse games, it wouldn't come as any big surprise.

Murphy has steadily built the Spiders into one of the most notable up-and-coming programs in Division I women's lacrosse in her six seasons at Richmond and one very big reason is -- or make that THREE very big reasons are -- an almost unheard of connection to one particular school up on East Street.

This is the story of how the University of Richmond became the chosen spot for three of the best female athletes in the recent history of Canandaigua Academy -- sisters Ashley and Mandy Friend and Morghan Vahue.
