Women's Lacrosse Heads To Philadelphia For A-10 Match-Ups

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond women's lacrosse team is heading to Philadelphia, Pa. for weekend match-ups with Saint Joseph's and Temple. The Spiders will face the Hawks on Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Finnesey Field and will meet the Owls on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Geasey Field.
Scouting The Spiders: The Spiders (7-4) have won four of their last five games and will look to capture their third straight win on Friday. Sophomore All-American Mandy Friend (33 goals) and sophomore transfer Allison Furstenburg (29 goals and nine assists) lead the Spiders' attack, while seniors Ashley Friend (18 goals and nine assists and Morghan Vahue (16 goals) balance out Richmond's forefront.
Last Time Out: The Spiders are coming off a 10-7 A-10 victory over George Washington in Richmond, Va. where Allison Furstenburg recorded her sixth hat trick of the season and Jackie Swansburg came up with 15 big stops between the pipes.
While Furstenburg notched three goals, Mandy Friend and juniors Mandy Friend also chipped in two helpers, while Hubbard added one.
Leading The A-10 And The Nation: Mandy Friend places in five statistical categories in the league, including leading the A-10 in game-winning goals (three), ranking fourth in goals (3.00/game) and draw controls (2.64/game), sixth for points (3.64/game) and seventh for shots (5.82/game). Sister Ashley Friend ranks eighth for assists, putting in 0.82/game, while Furstenburg ranks eighth for both goals (2.64/game) and assists (0.82/game) and ninth for points (3.45/game) and Jackie Swansburg leads the conference between the pipes in save percentage (.550) and saves per game (10.45) and ranks second for GAA (8.55).
Mandy Friend also ranks 24th in the nation for goals per game, while Swansburg ranks 8th for save percentage and 12th for GAA.
Scouting The Hawks: The Hawks (4-3) are coming off an 11-5 setback to #18 Rutgers where leading scorer (15 goals) Jenna Martino and Jessica Westlake led Saint Joseph's efforts with a pair of goals each. Suzy Herlihy recorded 14 stops between the pipes in the loss.
The Spiders have won all six meetings between the teams, including last years' 20-2 triumph in Richmond, Va. where Mandy Friend, who chipped in three goals.
Scouting The Owls: Temple (2-6) is coming off a 14-10 shortfall to #18 Rutgers despite four goals from leading scorer Allison Frengs (20 goals), including two in the final two minutes of the game. Casey Cech also added a hat trick and Bridget McMullan came up with 14 saves in goal for the Owls in the loss.
The Spiders have won the last four meetings between the two teams, including last year's 13-11victory in the A-10 Championship game in Washington, D.C. where McGuire scored a tournament record-tying six goals. Mandy Friend, Ashley Friend and Vahue added two goals each and Kennedy added one goal as the Spiders captured their second-straight title with the win over the Owls.
Up Next: Following this weekend's road trip, the Spiders will enjoy the week off before traveling up north to Massachusetts for a noon contest with the Minutewomen on April 15.
