UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Spider lacrosse standout Mandy Friend was honored by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) as she was named to the Division I All-American second team, earning All-America honors for the second-straight year.
Recently named to the IWLCA Division I All-Regional first team, the sophomore midfielder was one of just 48 Division I lacrosse players in the nation honored by the IWLCA.
Friend (Canandaigua, N.Y.) earned second-team honors after another stellar season which she posted 62 goals and 77 points, both new Richmond single season records. She scored in all but one contest, posting 12 hat tricks, four five-goal games, a career-high six-goal performance to lead the Spiders in the A-10 Championship game and three game-winners.
Friend, one of just five sophomores in the nation with over 100 career goals (115), concluded her season on a 16-game scoring streak and ranked 14th in the nation in the scoring column. After just her second season at Richmond, she already ranks sixth all-time in career points (153) and goals scored and seventh in assists (36).
Friend adds this honor to a collection of awards, including being named the leagues' Co-Offensive Player of the Year and the A-10 Championship's Most Outstanding Performer, being selected to the A-10 Championship and All-Conference first teams for the second-straight season and being named A-10 Player of the Week (2/26).
Friend also earned preseason honors, as she was selected as one of just 34 players in the country named to The Tewaaraton Award Foundation's Spring 2007 Women's Preseason Watch List in addition to being named to the Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American second team. She is also coming off a standout rookie season which she was named an All-American third team selection and Rookie All-American, the A-10 Rookie of the Year, and a five-time A-10 Rookie of the Week selection, among many others.
