Friend, Sciocchetti Named Richmond's Student-Athletes Of Year By Atlantic 10 Conference

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Rising senior men's soccer player Eric Sciocchetti and rising junior women's lacrosse player Mandy Friend were named Richmond's Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Year by the Atlantic 10 Conference.
For the first time, the Atlantic 10 directors of athletics recognized two individuals on each campus as Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

Friend had a standout 2007 season during which she scored in all but one game, including 12 hat tricks. She finished with a program-best 77 points and 62 goals, ranking 14th in the nation in goals. The leadership studies major is a two-time All-American, A-10 All-Conference, VaSID All-State First-Team and A-10 Championship team honoree. She was named the league's Co-Offensive Player of the Year and the A-10 Championship's Most Outstanding Performer.
The Canandaigua, N.Y. native was also selected to the VaSID Academic All-State squad, named A-10 Player of the Week (2/26) and earned preseason honors, as she was one of just 34 players in the country named to The Tewaaraton Award Foundation's Spring 2007 Women's Preseason Watch List, in addition to being named a Preseason All-American.
Sciocchetti was the 2006 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year and a First-Team Atlantic 10 All-Conference selection as a junior. The double major in business administration and Spanish/international business also earned NSCAA Academic All-America Third-Team honors last season.
The Wallingford, Pa. native allowed just four goals in Atlantic 10 play last fall, leading the conference with an .863 save percentage. He had a 0.84 goals against average and allowed just 14 goals in 16 games. Sciocchetti's other 2006 honors include selection to the NSCAA All-East Region Scholar Athlete Team, the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team, NSCAA First-Team All-Mid Atlantic Region and the Atlantic 10 All-Tournament Team. Sciocchetti has been named to the 2007 Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference Team.
