UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Incoming Richmond lacrosse freshman Bria Eulitt (Ellicott City, Md.) helped the U.S. squad capture its third consecutive gold medal in the International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Association's (IFWLA) Under-19 World Championship, August 4-11, 2007 in Ontario, Canada, gaining valuable playing experience before joining the Spiders on the field.
"It was the most amazing experience I have ever had as an athlete," said Eulitt. "To be able to play for your country - it was an experience that not many people get to have. To look up in the stands and see fans waving the U.S. flag and to have U.S.A on my chest while they played the Star Spangled Banner was beyond amazing."
A defender from Mount Hebron High School, Eulitt was one of just 18 players in the country on the team and saw action in the back as the U.S. dominated with victories over England, Canada, Australia, Scotland, even notching a goal in the 19-1 win over Scotland.
"We met so many different girls from other countries who shared the same passion for lacrosse that we did. It gets me really excited to come to Richmond and share the experience and camaraderie and have the chance to meet new players."
The IFWLA is the highest level of competition for a player before she matriculates at a college and gives her an early glance at the National Teams program.
The Under-19 team program is also designed to introduce the athlete to members of the senior teams, providing an opportunity for mentorship and development. The members of the U-19 team are the ambassadors of the sport for the U.S. both domestically and internationally and are dedicated to its growth and development at all levels.
"We are extremely proud of Bria and USA winning the World Cup this past weekend," stated Richmond lacrosse head coach Sue Murphy. "She proved to be an outstanding defender and leader on the field for U.S.A. I am confident she will bring the valuable experiences she gained both on and off the field while representing the United States to the University of Richmond."
