Lacrosse Welcomes Ten Newcomers For 2008 Campaign

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, VA. - Richmond head women's lacrosse coach Sue Murphy announces the addition of ten newcomers as she prepares to capture a fourth-straight Atlantic 10 Championship and berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Spiders' 2007 incoming freshman class, Jules Nicola, Briana Wright and Megan Young, will join the three-time Atlantic 10 Champions for the 2008 season.
"We're very excited about this incoming class as they display many honors and accolades," stated Murphy. "These recruits possess a great combination of athleticism, lacrosse skill, and experience of impacting their high school programs. Many will have the potential to make an immediate impact on the team."
Ball, a midfielder/defender from Lawrenceville, N.J., was a three year member on The Lawrenceville School's Varsity squad, earning MAPL All-League honors for two straight years. An All-American honorable mention, Kris Schulte Award honoree and two-time NJISAA All-League Prep A selection, Ball served as captain her senior year and finished second in total points her senior season and led team in ground balls and caused turnovers her junior year. Additionally, her team was MAPL Champions her senior year and state semi-finalists her junior year and she was named to the Magee Division All-Stars first team, and earned All-Galaxy Tournament Team honors while playing for the Tri-State Lacrosse Club Team.
Crawford, a midfielder out of Manlius, N.Y. was a three year member of the Fayetteville-Manlius Varsity squad, earning First Team All-League and Academic All-American honors all three years. In addition, she was named team MVP her senior year.
Eulitt, a defender from Ellicott City, Md. was a member of the U-19 U.S. Lacrosse squad that captured the 2007 IFWLA World Championship, as well as a four-year member of the Mount Hebron Varsity squad, earning All-County first team, All-Metro Baltimore Sun, All-Metro Washington Post and All-Galaxy first team honors for two-years straight. The High School and Under Armour All-American helped Mount Hebron to four state championships and three national championships. Additionally, her team was named Galaxy National Champions in 2006 and National Draw Champions in 2004.
Kelly, an attack from Baltimore, Md., was a four year member and three year starter for The McDonogh School Varsity team. She received the All-Star award her senior year and helped the team to B Conference Championships her sophomore season.
Nicola, an attack from Glenwood, Md. and four year Varsity starter for Glenelg, was a two-time First Team All-County honoree. Additionally, she served as captain her senior year and was honored with the leadership and the sportsmanship award.
Ryan, a midfielder from Darien, Conn., was a four year member and three year starter for the Darien squad. The two-time All-FCIAC First Team honoree served as lacrosse captain and earned team MVP, All-State and All-American honors her senior year.
Schaevitz, an attack from Bedford, N.Y., was a three year Varsity starter for Greenwich Academy, earning most improved honors.
Werther, an attack from Loudonville, N.Y., was a four year Varsity starter for the Albany Academy for Girls, earning CDWLL first team honors and All-Area honors for three straight years. The All-American honorable mention earned MVP honors for two seasons, as well as Most Valuable Offensive Player honors for one season and finished as the leading scorer her junior and senior seasons and the second leading scorer her sophomore year.
Wright, a midfielder from La Jolla, Calif., was a three year Varsity starter, earning All-CIF first team honors her junior and senior years.
Young, a defender from Bel Air, Md., earned two Varsity letters, serving as captain both years. She led John Carroll to IAAM "A" Conference Championship in 2007 and was a starter for Northeast Maryland Select (NEMS), earning NEMS' Jim McHugh Scholarship.
"After graduating 5-6 starters this past year, there will be a huge movement for our fall season to be very competitive and create opportunity for first year players and upperclassmen to influence the lineup come spring, 2008," said Murphy.
