Field Hockey Plays No. 8 Ranked Virginia Thursday

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond field hockey team will travel down I-64 to face No. 8 ranked Virginia on Thursday at 6 p.m. at University Hall Turf Field.
The Spiders (1-1) split two games in the Spider Classic last weekend, defeating Hofstra 3-2 and losing to No. 16 ranked American 4-0.
Sophomore Sarah Blythe-Wood was named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week after scoring two goals in the win over Hofstra, while freshman Sara Reese was named the conference's Rookie of the Week after scoring once against Hofstra.
Virginia holds a dominating 26-4-1 record in the all-time series, but Richmond has won four of the last five meetings.
The Cavaliers fell in their opening game at home to No. 7 Penn State 3-1. Virginia had taken the lead early, before seeing the Nittany Lions score the final three goals of the game.
The Spiders return home to play Delaware on Saturday at noon at Crenshaw Field.
