
No. 13 Duke Tops Spiders

DURHAM, N.C. - The Richmond field hockey team lost to No. 13 ranked Duke 4-1 on Sunday.
Sophomore Megan Thompson scored her third goal of the season in the second half. She is now second on the team with six points and has 12 career goals.
"We're getting better," Richmond head coach Gina Lucido said. "Today was definitely our best team effort this season."
Richmond sophomore goalkeeper Jacki Raithel played the second half, making a career-high nine saves. Junior goalkeeper Becca Weaver made four saves in the first half.
The No. 13 ranked Blue Devils, coming off a loss to No. 1 ranked North Carolina on Saturday, had four different players score. Marian Dickinson scored a goal and had two assists, while Lauren Miller had a goal and assists. Susan Ferger and Lauren Amicucci also scored goals for Duke.
Richmond drops to 1-8 on the season, but five of their losses have come to teams currently ranked in the NFHCA Top-20 National Poll. Richmond has lost to No. 8 James Madison, No. 9 American, No. 13 Duke, No. 15 Virginia and No. 17 Delaware.
The Spiders return to action at Princeton - a team receiving votes for the NFHCA Poll - next Sunday. That will be the Spiders final tune-up before opening Atlantic 10 Conference play on Oct. 5 at Temple.
