Thompson Named Atlantic 10 Player Of The Week

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond junior Megan Thompson was named Atlantic 10 Player of the week after scoring five goals in three games last week, including game-winning tallies in all three contests.
Thompson scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in come-from-behind victories over VCU on Wednesday and Saint Joseph's on Friday. She then had an assist on the Spiders' first goal and scored the game winner in Richmond's 3-2 win over Temple on Sunday.
The Gap, Pa. native leads Richmond with eight goals and 24 points this season. She now has 21 career goals, which puts her 10th on the school's all-time career list. Thompson is 12th on the school list with 48 career points, one point behind senior Alex Malatesta and two points out of a tie for 10th.
"She is such a spark," Richmond head coach Gina Lucido said. "You will not meet a harder worker. She is such a passionate young women. Megan has worked and worked and worked and earned every bit of this. When she's on she's unstoppable as has been evidenced in this last week of play."
Thompson is Richmond's third Atlantic 10 Player of the Week award winner of the fall, joining senior Sarah Schrott and junior Sarah Blythe-Wood. Freshman Katelin Peterson has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week twice.
The Spiders have won three-straight to move to 6-9 overall and 2-1 in the Atlantic 10. Before their three-game winning streak, Richmond had played seven of eight games against ranked opponents.
Richmond returns to action on Friday at La Salle at 3:30 p.m.
