FAIRFAX, Va. -
Led by junior Danielle Bell's 5-for-5 shooting from the field, Richmond (2-0) easily won its second game of the season in a 75-46 romp over in-state rival George Mason (0-2), Sunday afternoon. Bell ended her day with 16 points, going a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the arc.
"I just got lucky," said Bell. "When I caught it, I thought shoot first. I was proud of our team. I thought we played very consistent."
The game's final score marked the most lopsided victory for the Spiders since Nov. 11th, 2005 when Richmond defeated Hampton University, 77-47.
The Spiders started the game on a 9-0 run and never looked back. Richmond led by as many as 42 before ending the game at 75-46.
"Whatever five I put together, played together," head coach Michael Shafer said. "We were incredibly unselfish on the offensive end, and we had each other's backs on the defensive end of the floor."
Second in scoring for the Spiders was freshman Abby Oliver, who went 9-for-10 from the charity stripe. Oliver finished her day with nine points and two assists.
Freshman Becky Cox led George Mason in scoring with 10 points.
The Spiders travel to Albany University next Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
