Doogan Drops 35 as Spiders Close Regular Season with Road Win at St. Joe’s

PHILADELPHIA – Maggie Doogan scored 35 points in front of a hometown crowd as the University of Richmond women's basketball team concluded the regular season with a 72-61 win at Saint Joseph's Saturday afternoon. With the win, Richmond closed the regular season at 25-6 overall and 15-3 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Hawks finish 19-10 overall and 10-8 in league action.

SJU opened the game with a layup before Maggie Doogan answered on the other end to tie the game at two. Ally Sweeney scored her first points on a layup before the Hawks responded with a triple. After another Doogan layup, SJU used a 4-0 spurt to take a 9-6 lead, but Rachel Ullstrom tied the game at nine with a three pointer. The Hawks reclaimed the lead with back-to-back buckets to go up 13-9 before Tierra Simon knocked down a jumper late in the quarter as the Spiders trailed 13-11 after the first 10 minutes.
The teams exchanged a pair of free throws to open the second quarter before the Hawks added a layup to extend the lead to 17-13. Ullstrom hit one at the line to spark a 7-0 Richmond run as Doogan and Rayne Wright drained back-to-back triples to give UR a 20-17 advantage. Two Saint Joseph's free throws trimmed the margin to one, 20-19, but Doogan answered with another three pointer at the 2:39 mark for her 12th point of the game. The Hawks responded from deep, but Doogan countered with a jumper to ignite a 5-0 burst as Wright and Simon each scored to send Richmond into halftime with a 28-22 lead.

A 4-0 Hawk run cut it to 10, 49-39, but Doogan closed the quarter with two more free throws as Richmond led 51-39 entering the final period.

Two more Saint Joseph's triples cut the lead to 62-56 before Simon ended the run with a layup. Doogan converted two free throws and Wright added a layup to extend the lead to 68-56. The Hawks hit another three pointer before Doogan again went 2-for-2 at the line to make it 70-59. Saint Joseph's added a late jumper, but Doogan sealed the 72-61 win with two final free throws.

- Maggie Doogan led the Spiders with 35 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including three three pointers, and went a career-high 14-for-14 (tied for 14th-highest in program history in a single game) at the free throw line. She added five rebounds and four assists. The performance marked her fourth 30-point game of the season.
- Ally Sweeney finished with 12 points, three rebounds, four assists and a steal for her 18th double-figure scoring game of the year.
