FORT MYERS, Fla. - Richmond shot 68.6 percent from the field, including 28-of-34 from inside the three-point line in an 85-74 win over UMKC on Tuesday in the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic.
Senior Jarhon Giddings led the Spiders with a career-high 20 points, sophomore Justin Harper had a career-high 19 points, junior David Gonzalvez had 14 points and six assists and sophomore Kevin Anderson had his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 assists.
"Our offense was very good tonight," Richmond head coach Chris Mooney said. "We were able to get scoring from a lot of people in a lot of ways."
The Spiders won their second-straight game since a 76-71 loss at Syracuse in the first game of the CBE Classic. The Spiders (3-1) will conclude play in the CBE Classic against Bradley on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in a game that will be shown back in Richmond on Comcast Channel 19.
All three of Richmond's victories have come by double-figures and the Spiders are averaging 76.5 points per game through four contests.
Giddings had set a career high for rebounds in Monday night's victory over Florida Gulf Coast and pushed his career high for points to 20, making 7-of-11 field goals, including a perfect 6-for-6 from inside the arc. He also made a three-pointer, had two assists and one steal.
Gonzalvez shot 7-of-11 for the field for the second-straight night. He has now made seven field goals in the last three games and is shooting 61.9 percent (26-of-42) from the field and 46.7 percent (7-of-15) from three on the season.
The Spiders gave up over 70 points for the second time in four games as UMKC's Dane Brumagin had a 26 points and Reggie Hamilton had 23.
"On defense, we're not quite where we want to be, we've still got a little ways to go, but we were able to dig down and put the game away when it mattered," Mooney said.
Richmond received scoring from eight players. Redshirt freshman Conor Smith had eight points, freshman Francis-Cedric Martel had six points, redshirt freshman Josh Duinker had four and sophomore Kevin Smith had two points, dished out four assists and had three steals.
