University of Richmond, Va. -
The women's basketball team opens their 2008-09 season with an exhibition game scheduled for 7 p.m. tomorrow night at the Robins Center. The Spiders will face off against DT3, a traveling squad comprised of former collegiate players from BCS schools such as Purdue, West Virginia, Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech.
The Spiders have been practicing since October 17th, and seem ready for the challenges the veteran DT3 squad brings.
"We are excited about actually putting on the uniform and getting a chance to compete in front a crowd," head coach Michael Shafer said. They have very athletic players at every position, so it will give us a good barometer of what a collegiate game will be like."
The Spiders will have 10 days to work on improvements before their home opener versus the Kennesaw State Owls November 14th.
"This year is a little different in that we are playing this game a little earlier," said Shafer. "I wanted to have the opportunity to get a look at ourselves and then have more time to try to work through some of the trouble spots."
After the home opener versus Kennesaw State, the Spiders embark on a five-game road trip.
