No. 20 Richmond Buries Longwood In Season Opener

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Allison Furstenburg's 10 points catapulted the No. 20 Spiders over Longwood, 21-11 in Richmond first game of the 2008 season. Furstenburg scored six points and added four assists to lead the Spiders. Lexie Marrocco added seven points of her own with five goals and two assists while Mandy Friend contributed six points consisting of four goals and two assists. Dee Warehime and Kesley Dean each recorded a hat trick for the Lancers.
The Spiders attacked ruled the field in No. 20 Richmond's first victory of the 2008 season. Six different players contributed goals for the Spiders. Along with Furstenburg, Friend and Marrocco, freshman Jules Nicola recorded her own hat trick, Katy Smullen added two goals and freshman Anne Ryan added one goal.

There are 11 newcomers in this year's roster. Two of those 11 freshmen accounted for six points out of Richmond's 21 in the win over Longwood. Jules Nicola added three goals, recording her first career hat trick.
Next up for the No. 20 Spiders, No. 3 Duke comes to Richmond next Friday, February 22 for a 3 p.m. ET game at First Market Stadium.
