The Spiders head back on the road after playing their last two game at home in the Robins Center. Last week, Richmond earned their first 30-point victory since 2005 with a win over Rhode Island, 68-38. Redshirt junior Johanna McKnight led the Spiders over URI with 16 points. Brittani Shells recorded 16 points in the Spiders' game against Saint Joseph's over the weekend to lead Richmond.
The Spiders lead the all-time series with Dayton, 7-3. Richmond first saw the Flyers in women's basketball in 2002. Most recently, in 2007, Richmond earned the win in the Robins Center, 66-63. Then-junior Christina Campion led the Spiders over Dayton in the three-point victory with 15 points. Then-freshman Kara Powell also recorded double-figures with 11 points in last year's win.
Three Spiders are among the top 10 in three-point field goal percentage in the Atlantic 10. Sophomore Johanna McKnight sits in sixth shooting 40.4%. Shells is the ninth highest scoring freshman in the NCAA and ranks tenth amongst all Atlantic 10 players averaging 14 ppg.
The Flyers have won their last four games, making their A-10 record 7-3 putting them in second position in conference standings. Most recently Dayton took down Rhode Island (2/17), 63-50. Kristin Daugherty recorded 19 points in the Flyers' win over URI. Nikki Oakland currently lead the Flyers averaging 13.8 ppg. .
Up Next: Richmond will return to the Robins Center Saturday, February 23 to host Duquesne. Saturday's game is senior day where Christina Campion and Tanja Miranovic will be honored by the athletic department. The game is also Richmond's "Go Red for Women" game in support of the fight against heart disease among women. The Spiders will be wearing their red uniforms, while Duquesne will be in white. Fans are encouraged to also sport the color red to the game.
