OLEAN, N.Y. - Freshman Johanna McKnight also earned double-digits with 12 points a piece. The two guards and one forward led the shooting brigade to give Richmond its eleventh win of the season. St. Bonaventure's Dana Mitchell was the lone player to earn a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The name of the game was shooting for the Spiders in the 62-48 victory over St. Bonaventure. Richmond shot 29-for-55, 52.7%, from the floor, making the Spiders' record 3-0 this season when shooting over 50%. Sophomore Danielle Bell missed only one field goal and sunk both of her three-point attempts to put up eight points in the win.
"I thought our guards played extremely well tonight," head coach Michael Shafer said. "They all worked hard to get the shots off that they needed to help us earn a good win tonight."
The Spiders started off strong putting up an impressive first half of play, leading the Bonnies going into the locker room, 33-21. Richmond's Brittani Shells paced the Spiders in the first half with 12 points. Richmond went 15-for-27 from the floor and a close to perfect 3-for-4 from behind the arc to conclude the first 20 minutes of play.
Freshman Christina Campion pulled down 4 rebounds, including one from the floor. The forward was knocked down in the first half but was defensive rebound from floor-level.
"Our kids did a great job defensively," coach Shafer commented. "Watching tape I knew the Bonnies were good at penetrating the ball but our kids knew that and handled it well."
Richmond shot just two free throws the entire game, The Spiders' size advantage under the basket helped forwards get good looks at the basket where they were able to finish lay-ups. With just over four minutes left to play in regulation, freshman Goring put in two straight field goals with a steal in between to put Richmond up 17.
Next up, Richmond will take on A-10 leader, No. 14 George Washington, Sunday February 10 at 2 p.m. ET.
