UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond women's tennis team swept the Dukes in doubles action and won all but one match in singles play to earn the handed win over James Madison 6-1. Pamela Duran, the Spiders number one contender, led the way for the Spiders earning a win with her partner Erin Clark in doubles play then taking down the Dukes' Erickson in singles, 6-1, 6-3.
"It was good for the team to play a match where we had to dictate the points," head coach Mark Wesselink commented. "This match will serve us well in future Atlantic 10 competition. I was happy with our resilience in doubles but we need to get better starts and play more aggressively early."
Richmond two other duos also earned wins as the Spiders swept the Dukes in all three doubles matches. Ashlee Vosters and Kelly Tidwell teamed up to take down JMU's Nimitz and Maxwell in a close 8-6 decision. Isabel Arana was paired with Jelena Zivanovik to take down Donner and Brandalik of JMU, 9-7.
Along with Duran, Clark, Tidwell, Xenia Schneider and Zivanovik all earned wins in singles play for Richmond. The Spiders' lone senior, Zivanovik took down Donner of JMU in the sixth position, 6-3, 6-1.
The Spiders continue to play in Richmond as they host Georgetown Thursday, March 20 for a 2:30 p.m. ET match.
