Spiders Topped By No. 22 Tribe

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Richmond women's tennis fell at no. 22 William and Mary, 7-0. Although the Spiders were unable to earn a point, they fought hard in every match. Pamela Duran, Richmond's no. 1 contender, faced off against nationally ranked-no. 9 Megan Moulton-Levy.
Duran fell to Moulton-Levy, 6-2, 6-1. Also playing a tough match for the Spiders was Xenia Schneider who saw the Tribe's Carmen Pop in the no. 5 position. Schneider lost a close first set, 6-4, and then Pop earned the win with a 6-2 second set.
William and Mary's no. 1 doubles team of Moulton-Levy and Kat Zoricic are ranked no. 16 in national polls. The Spider's top duo of Duran and Ashlee Vosters were able to get up on the Tribe's best pair but were unable to get the win, in an 8-4 decision.
"I was very happy with our top two doubles teams," head coach Mark Wesselink commented. "Duran and Vosters were four all with game points to go up on the no. 16 ranked doubles tandem in the nation. Clark and Schneider had even more opportunities losing a tight 8-6 match at no. 2."
The Spiders have one more regular season match of 2008 before heading to Pittsburgh, Pa. for the Atlantic 10 Championships. Richmond will host Fordham at the UR Tennis Complex Saturday, April 12 at 2 p.m. ET.
"We like to play especially strong teams leading up to the A-10's," Wesselink added. "Our players have enough confidence to weather a loss and still feel good about competing at such a high level."
