
Spiders Head North For The Weekend

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond women's lacrosse team heads north for two Atlantic 10 conference games this weekend. Olean, N.Y. is the Spiders' first stop to take on St. Bonaventure Friday, April 4 at 3 p.m. ET. Two days later the team will turn around to play at Duquesne Sunday, April 6 for a 12 p.m. ET game. The Spiders are 2-0 in A-10 play heading into the weekend.
Richmond (4-7, 2-0) opened its A-10 schedule last weekend against UMass Friday, March 28. The Spiders took down the Minutewomen at UR Stadium in a 17-12 decision. Richmond earned its second win of the weekend at La Salle on Sunday, March 30 powering past the Explorers, 19-5.
After putting in 10 goals in Richmond's two games last week, Allison Furstenburg was named the A-10 Player of the Week. Also earning weekly honors for the Spiders was Anne Ryan who garnered Rookie of the Week after putting in seven goals on seven shots in Richmond's two games.
The Bonnies (1-7, 0-2) also kicked off their A-10 schedule in Philadelphia taking on Temple and then heading to Saint Joseph's. St. Bonaventure finished the weekend winless losing first to the Owls, 10-8 and then fighting into double-overtime with the Hawks but falling 10-9.
Brenna Houghton is currently the team-leader in goals and overall points. Houghton has 13 goals and 11 assists so far on the 2008 season for a total of 24 points. Eboni Preston has been in the cage for the majority of Bonnies' minutes this season recording a save percentage of 50.3%.
Last season the Spiders took down St. Bonaventure in Richmond, 17-8. Mandy Friend reached her 100th goal milestone in the game putting five goals to lead Richmond. The Spiders lead the all-time series with Bonnies 3-2.
The Spiders take on Duquesne (3-7, 0-1) for their second game of the weekend in Pittsburgh, Pa. Sunday April 6 for a noon game. The Dukes also have a conference game Friday, April 4 as they host George Washington. Heading into the weekend, Duquesne has played just one A-10 game against Temple. The Owls walked away with the 12-9 win on March 30 in Philadelphia.
Kathleen McNish has an impressive 24 assists so far this season and has also added 14 goals for a total of 38 points to lead the Dukes. Meghan Frederick is second on the team with 27 points, with 13 goals and 14 assists.
The Spiders hosted Duquesne last season for their senior day at First Market Stadium, earning a 12-9 victory over the Dukes. Then-senior Ashley Friend went out on a high note with a six-goal performance to lead the Spiders. With the win Richmond secured its second straight A-10 regular season championship.
Looking a head Richmond will take a break from A-10 play to host American at First Market Stadium Wednesday, April 9 for a 3 p.m. ET start time. The Spiders will continue to play at home as they host Temple Sunday, April 13 at 1 p.m. ET.
