UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond women's lacrosse team returns to its home turf at First Market Stadium after a three game stint on the road, to host American Wednesday, April 9 for a 3 p.m. ET game time. The Spiders are looking for their fifth straight victory after winning four Atlantic 10 conference games in the past two weeks.
Last weekend, Richmond (6-7, 4-0) put up two impressive come back performances at St. Bonaventure then again at Duquesne. Lexie Marrocco lifted the Spiders over the Bonnies with less than 10 seconds on the clock to give Richmond a 10-9 edge. Two days later, the Spiders scored eight unanswered goals to overcome a six-goal halftime deficit to beat the Dukes, 15-13.
Anne Ryan has repeated as A-10 Rookie of the Week for the second straight week after putting in four goals on just six shots in Richmond's two games last week. The freshman sparked the eight-goal Richmond run less than thirty seconds into the second half.
The Spiders break up their conference schedule to play a non-conference opponent for the first time since 2004. After playing three games on the road, Richmond returns to First Market Stadium to host American (5-8, 3-1).
The Eagles are coming off a loss to the Hokies of Virginia Tech, 14-11. Lauren Aksionoff led American with four goals in Blacksburg. Jackie Lane is the current goal leader for the Eagles with 30 goals and 14 assists on the season for a total of 44 points.
Richmond will continue its A-10 schedule this Sunday, April 13 to host rival Temple at First Market Stadium for a 1 p.m. ET start time.
