RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond's plan to expand First Market Stadium and bring football home to campus goes before a vote of the Richmond City Council on Monday. Approval by the City Council allows the project to remain on schedule to open for the 2010 football season.
The Department of Athletics, which has spent months planning for this critical step, is inviting Spider fans to attend the meeting and show their support of the project. The meeting begins promptly at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall -- located at 900 East Broad Street.
If you plan to attend, please contact Erin Lears in the Athletic Office at 804-289-8694 or erin.lears@richmond.edu.
Passing its first test on July 21, the City Planning Commission approved the stadium with a unanimous vote.
The project calls for the expansion of First Market Stadium into a 9,000-seat, state-of-the-art multipurpose athletic facility, which will serve as the home to the Richmond football, soccer, lacrosse and track & field teams.
