University of Richmond, Va. -
An early goal in the first half of play was the difference the Spiders needed as they went on to defeat the American Eagles 1-0, Tuesday night at First Market Stadium. With the win, Richmond improves to 5-1-1 on the year, their best mark since 1999.
The lone goal in the game occured at the 10 minute mark, as senior Julia Bizer sent the ball to the endline looking for Sarah Hilt. Hilt tried to cross to Jessie Wolfe, but the ball was then deflected into the goal by Eagles defender Marissa Crollett.
The Spiders controlled the tempo for the majority of the game, as American only mustered four shots on goal. Richmond upped its offensive intensity by forcing 15 shots on goal, with Wolfe making seven attempts.
"Our defensive effort was great," head coach Peter Albright said. "Wolfe was in a different class by herself. We had great chances all game. American's goal keeper played fantastic."
The Spiders continue their home play Friday night as the Penn Quakers come to First Market Stadium. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
Live coverage, including game tracker and free video streaming on SpiderTV, will be available for the game.
