University of Richmond, Va. -
Senior Sarah Hilt's penalty kick midway through the second overtime propelled Richmond over Penn, 1-0 Friday night at First Market Stadium. The surging Spiders are now 6-1-1, equaling the best start in school history set by the 1999 squad.
The penalty kick came at the 105th minute as junior Kelsey Rdzanek was taken down in the box. Hilt then ripped a shot in the left side of the goal past the Quakers goal keeper to secure the win.
"Our team understands we have to work hard to win," head coach Peter Albright said. "The last 25 minutes of the game, plus the overtimes were all us. I'm glad our hard work was rewarded in the win."
The Spiders easily outshot the Quakers by a margin of 20-7. Freshman goal keeper Andrea Young had four saves. Richmond's defense continues to be solid, as they've allowed just six goals all year, and one in the last four matches.
"Andrea had some really good saves," said Albright. "She had a test tonight, and she played like a veteran."
The Spiders start conference play when they travel to Dayton next Friday. Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m.
