University of Richmond, Va. -
Stifling defense, coupled with aggressive play by senior forward Jessie Wolfe, resulted in Richmond's 3-1 victory over the visiting Xavier Musketeers Sunday afternoon. Wolfe netted two goals in the game, pushing her to three goals total on the season.
"Jessie Wolfe is the best player in the conference," head coach Peter Albright said. "She does so many different things for us. She's having a monster season."
Richmond (7-2-1) controlled the tempo the first half, only allowing Xavier (1-7-1) one shot on goal.
The Spider's first goal came at the 17th minute mark when Wolfe sent a pass to freshman Kat Russell, who lofted the ball past Xavier goal keeper Kelly Farrell in the right side of the net.
Richmond scored again at the 48:57 mark when Wolfe received a pass from junior Carter Blair and sent it past Farrell.
The Spider's final goal came in the 57th minute, when Wolfe again scored from a cross pass from freshman Bridget Kinealy.
"We had good intensity coming off Dayton," Albright said. "The experience we've gained sets us up well to go through the A-10 Conference."
The Spiders continue their home stand when they host Rhode Island Friday. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. at First Market Stadium.
Live coverage, including game tracker and free video streaming on SpiderTV will be available for the game.
