Charlotte, N.C. -
Aggressive offensive play along with tenacious defense resulted in Richmond's (3-1-1) first draw of the season Sunday afternoon as they tied host Davidson College (2-0-3), 1-1, in final round of the adidas Davidson College Tournament.
"We played our best attack soccer of the season," head coach Peter Albright said. "We played with guts. I'm pleased with our team."
The only goal for the Wildcats came right before the first half, as freshman keeper Andrea Young went to block the ball, but the ball bounced off the cross bar and junior Katharine Laco footed the ball in the goal.
"Andrea made an excellent save, we just got unlucky," said Albright.
Richmond broke into the scoring category in the 79th minute, as freshman Emily Dale scored from an assist by junior Jessie Knight.
Junior Kelsey Rdzanek almost scored the winning goal for the Spiders in the first overtime, when her direct shot on goal sailed high over the cross bar.
"We had several chances to put the game away," said Albright. "It was overall a great game."
Young recorded four saves on the night, as Richmond out shot Davidson 14-11.
Richmond returns to action next Friday, when they travel to UMBC. Kick-off is slated for 4:00 p.m.
