Women's Tennis Opens Season At Wake Forest

The women's tennis (1-1) opened its 2009 schedule at Wake Forest this past weekend. Richmond fell to Wake Forest on Friday 6-1, but defeated Dartmouth 5-3 the following day.
Ashlee Vosters recorded the sole win, defeating Wake Forests' Anna Mydlowska 6-3, 6-1.
"Wake Forest matched us up," said head coach Mark Wesselink. "They're a nationally ranked team, so we knew it would be tough. Playing Wake Forest really prepared us for Dartmouth."
The following day, Richmond came from behind to defeat Dartmouth, 5-3. Richmond dominated the singles matches, with Ashlee Vosters all recording victories. No. 2 Ashlee Vosters defeated Carley Markovitz, 6-3, 6-4.
"I'm extremely happy with our performance with a tough Dartmouth team," said Wesselink. "We have a really strong team and the more matches we get under our belt, the better we will be."
The Spiders took two of three in doubles action, with Vosters/Kelly Tidwell defeating Adler/Smyser 8-6. Xenia Schneider/Cunnigham defeated Carpeni/King, 8-6.
Richmond returns to action next weekend where they will face West Virginia and Liberty.
