UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
Freshman Natalie LeClair scored for the second straight game as Richmond (6-5-1, 2-1-0) edged Temple (4-6-1, 0-3-0) 2-1 Friday night at Ukrop Park. Senior Carter Blair added the second goal for the Spiders.
Richmond controlled much of the first half, as the Spiders were deep in Owl territory but could not connect on a goal in the first 45 minutes of play. In the 50th minute, LeClair dribbled the entire length of the field and buried a shot from eight yards out to give the Spiders the 1-0 advantage. The goal marked LeClair's fourth on the season.
"For the first part of the game we really controlled the tempo," said head coach Peter Albright. "But we let them get back in it towards the end. Overall, I'm happy with our winning league record. We're ready for Saint Joseph's."
In the 82nd minute, Richmond seemingly put the game out of reach after Carter Blair header from sophomore Liza Koch gave the Spiders the 2-0 lead. Temple countered a minute later with a goal off a corner kick. Temple threatened in the last five minutes of the game but could not score the equalizer.
"We're improving," said Albright. "We had a great game at goalkeeping and we had great goals."
Sophomore Melissa Pacheco collected a game-high nine saves in the net.
The Spiders host Saint Joseph's at 1 p.m. Sunday at Ukrop Park.
