UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
A St. Bonaventure golden goal in the 106th minute sunk the Spiders, 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Ukrop Park. Senior Kristen Stalter led Richmond with three shots.
"It was a well played game," said head coach Peter Albright. "In the second half and first overtime, both teams had chances to win the game. I thought it was going to be an odd touch that secured the win and that's what happened."
Tori Burchett broke free in Spider territory and lobbed a ball over a Richmond defender at close range to record the only score of the game.
Richmond thwarted a St. Bonaventure attempt early in the first overtime when senior midfielder Jen Ruhe dove into the goal and kicked out the Bonnie try.
"Jenny showed us why she is one of the best defenders in the conference," said Albright. "Melissa Pacheco was fantastic in goal."
Pacheco collected a game-high seven saves in net.
"I was pleased with our competitiveness and fighting spirit," said Albright. "We have a lot to play for this upcoming weekend."
Richmond moves to 8-8-2 overall and 4-4-1 in league action for 13 points. The Spiders are in the mix for a berth to the Atlantic 10 Tournament that takes place Nov. 5th-8th in Charlotte, N.C. Richmond travels to New England next weekend for pivotal matches against Rhode Island and Massachussetts.
