LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Richmond women's cross country team placed ninth overall, while the men raced to a 21st-place finish Saturday at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship in Louisville, Ky. Junior Nicol Traynor led the women by placing 26th with junior Tim Quinn placing 33rd.
Traynor was clocked in 21:27 on the 6k course.
"I'm proud of the way the girl's raced today," said women's head coach Lori Taylor. "They showed determination, heart and perseverance after a disappointing conference meet. I'm proud of the way our team responded over the past two weeks. We showed purpose today and beat a lot of good teams."
Freshman Rachel Sykes finished off an outstanding rookie campaign with her 63rd-place finish in 22:08. Junior Julie Rechel also helped lead the Spiders today with her 54th-place finish (22:02), while senior Jenn Ennis was 71st (22:20) and sophomore Carter Norbo was 100th (22:45).
Duke claimed the women's team title and Catherine White of Virginia was the individual champion.
On the men's side, Quinn's 10k time of 31:26 paced the Spiders to a 21st-place team finish.
"We've had injuries this season and with our redshirting of some key runners, I'm proud of the way we bounced back from the A-10 meet," said men's head coach Steve Taylor. "Our team has worked hard for everything they've done. Their work ethic is excellent."
Freshman Alex Lochner finished 111th (33:04), sophomore Kevin Romesser was 135th (33:36), freshman Chris York was 137th (33:37) and senior Garrett Graham was 143rd (33:43).
