Three Spiders scored in double figures as Richmond (2-0) cruised to a 78-52 win over in-state rival George Mason (1-1) Monday night at the Robins Center.
The Spiders and Patriots traded baskets for the first ten minutes of the first half, with neither team leading by more than two baskets. Richmond then went on a scoring tear, pouring in 21 points to the Patriots' five to take a commanding 36-19 lead with 1:03 remaining in the first frame.
"I thought we moved the ball really well," said head coach Michael Shafer. "We had some wide open shots we were able to connect on. We shot the ball really well tonight."
The Patriots whittled the lead to within a 17-point deficit at 63-46 with 4:00 remaining in the game but could get no closer. Richmond moved to a spotless 8-0 in November games since 2007-08 season and has now won the past five meetings against George Mason.

Junior guard Danielle Bell chipped in with 13 points, five assists and two steals.

The Spiders dished 22 assists and caused 23 George Mason turnovers. Richmond also owned a 39-27 advantage on the boards.
The Spiders continue their home slate with CAA power Drexel Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Robins Center.
